Inspired by the Highland landscape, a canvas often starts by choosing a chromatic colour scale to work in. To create the subtle nuances in shade and textures of my surroundings I often pour on paint, dragging it by using a sheet of picture glass, combing, mixing in gesso, crackle or scumble glaze, while the paint is wet. Texture is added by whatever comes to hand! Loose tea, silica gel, tissue and newspaper.
The inception of each canvas starts with no definitive plan, but evolves as the application of paint and collage reveals the finished painting, evoking mountains, sea and the elements.
